TEEN THEATRE

DEVISED THEATRE INITIATIVE

The Devised Theatre Initiative strives to empower our youth to speak their truths and begin a dialogue with their community.  During the 6 week program, teen participants, ages 13-18, gather at the theatre, getting to know each other, sharing deep, personal struggles and opinions, laughing together, and learning to unite towards a shared goal.

This program is a collaborative, experimental, and exploratory method of creating a theatrical performance. It begins with a shared idea or inspiration, such as a painting, a song, a real life event, or social issue, and the group participants or “ensemble” create the work as they go. The work is found through improvisation, movement exercises, and collaborative writing. The “final” product is presented to the public in whatever state of completion it is in, beginning a dialogue, through art, with their community and their peers.
